What is a pantograph?

A pantograph is an electrically conductive device that is mounted on the roof of an electric train, tram or bus and is used to transfer electrical power from overhead lines to the train or vehicle. The pantograph consists of a series of sliding arms that are connected to a spring-loaded collector head, which maintains contact with the overhead wire, allowing the train or vehicle to draw power as it moves along the tracks.
